In the broader view, Intel through the World Ahead Program,
tried to implement the benefits of Information Communication Technology (ICT) to
all sections of society. The investment was to be spread out over a period of
five years.
According to the company, the project was designed to improve human
life in four broad ways: increase accessibility of personal computers (PCs) in
remote areas, enhance connectivity through wireless broadband, and improve the
education system through advanced methods of teaching and learning, as well as
provide localized content and application.

According to the company, Intel had been involved in a number of CSR activities right from its inception. The founders believed in giving back to the commmunities which had helped the company grow, it said. They paid special importance to education, as they wanted to nurture talented people.
The other areas of focus were healthcare, environment, public policy, etc. Rather than considering these as mere philanthropic activities, the company regarded them as strategic opportunities of investment in communities and human development.
World Ahead was one such initiative and through it, Intel aimed to bridge the digital divide between the poor, underprivileged communities in the world and those living in the developed cities...
